The Radical Reportage with Nikita Teryoshin.

In this two-day workshop, award-winning photographer Nikita Teryoshin invites participants to rethink the rules of documentary and street photography. Known for his offbeat, confrontational, and darkly humorous images, Nikita’s approach—what he sometimes calls “radical reportage”—combines spontaneity, social observation, and visual wit to reveal strange truths in everyday scenes.

Participants will be challenged to step out of their comfort zones, explore Lisbon with open eyes, and—where possible—infiltrate events or public gatherings to capture surprising, layered, or absurd moments. Expect a mix of walks, spontaneous interventions, editing advice, and open discussion.

⚠️  Important: Some activities may overlap. Please check the schedule carefully before booking. Participants will not be able to attend two activities that run at the same time.

Workshop Overview

The focus of this workshop will be on developing a short reportage or visual story using flash aesthetics as an exercise. In the classroom, there will be a focused editing session and group review with Nikita's feedback.

Day 1 – See differently. The workshop begins with an introduction into Nikita’s practice and visual language, including his long-term projects. Through discussion and practical exercises, participants will be encouraged to loosen up their approach and look beyond obvious subjects. The group will hit the streets, scouting locations and exploring public events or gatherings to practice being visually opportunistic.

Day 2 – Get Closer. The second day continues with more ambitious shooting. Participants will revisit their chosen themes, further develop their portfolios and ideas, or continue pursuing spontaneous visual discoveries.
